Vision One Eleven – A new concept car from Mercedes

Feturing innovative advancements in motor technology and augmented driving experiences

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its latest concept car, the Vision One-Eleven, which pays homage to the iconic C111 experimental prototypes from the 1960s and ’70s. This futuristic, all-electric hypercar showcases Mercedes’ design and performance technology advancements in the electric vehicle (EV) domain. With a striking “One-Bow” design and a range of innovative features, the Vision One-Eleven sets the stage for the future of electric sports cars. In this article, we will delve into the design, interior features, and cutting-edge technology that define this remarkable concept vehicle.

Design: A Fusion of Retro and Futuristic

The Mercedes-Benz Vision One-Eleven boasts a captivating monolith-style exterior design, finished in a metallic orange hue, paying homage to the iconic C111. The vehicle’s streamlined, sculptural shape is aerodynamic and reflects the brand’s EV developments. The concept introduces the “One-Bow” design language, which gives a nod to the C111’s unique styling while incorporating modern aesthetics.

One of the standout design features is the 3D pixel theme displayed throughout the car. The headlights and brake lights feature digitized panels of squares, reminiscent of the C111’s round fog lights. These panels can change graphics dynamically, adding a dynamic touch to the vehicle’s appearance.

Interior: Retrofuturistic Elegance

The Vision One-Eleven presents a lounge-style cabin that embodies luxury and comfort. Opening via signature gullwing doors, the interior reveals a blend of white and silver finishes with orange accents. The F1-style bucket seats with four-point harnesses and diamond-quilted upholstery exude sportiness and elegance.

At the center of attention is the high-tech steering wheel, which incorporates a 3D pixel display. This innovative dashboard concept, inspired by the Hyperscreen, spans the entire width of the car. It presents simplified speed and navigation graphics, reducing the visual clutter often found in modern dashboard screens.

Cutting-Edge Electric Powertrain

The heart of the Vision One-Eleven is its electric powertrain, developed in collaboration with YASA, a British electric-motor company. The powertrain utilizes an axial-flux motor, a technology known for delivering more power in a compact package compared to the radial-flux motors commonly found in today’s EVs. This innovation is possible due to the acquisition of YASA by Mercedes-Benz, signifying the brand’s commitment to advancing electric mobility.

The vehicle’s powertrain also incorporates an F1-derived battery technology featuring liquid-cooled cylindrical cells. This technology, developed by engineers from Mercedes-AMG’s High-Performance Powertrain division, ensures efficient performance and enhanced power reserves.

Future Implications

While the Mercedes-Benz Vision One-Eleven is currently a concept car and not intended for production, it serves as a technology demonstrator for the brand’s future EV offerings. The design cues, interior innovations, and electric powertrain advancements showcased in the Vision One-Eleven will likely influence upcoming Mercedes-Benz models, providing a glimpse into the brand’s commitment to electric mobility and cutting-edge automotive engineering.
