Mazda Electrifies China Again with the Sleek EZ-60 SUV
Mazda’s making serious waves in the Chinese EV market, and their latest splash is the unveiling of the all-new MAZDA EZ-60 electric crossover SUV. Launched at Auto Shanghai 2025 by Changan Mazda, their joint venture with Changan Automobile, this is the second EV born from this fruitful partnership.
Double the Electric Fun
Following on the heels of the MAZDA EZ-6 from last year, the EZ-60 is set to hit Chinese roads in 2025. Both models fall under Changan Mazdaβs exhibition theme, “Yu Dian Xin Jing,β which translates to breaking new ground with electric vehicles. This clearly signals Mazda’s intent to be a significant player in China’s rapidly evolving EV landscape.
Style Meets Substance (and Smart Tech!)
The EZ-60 isn’t just about being electric; it’s got that signature Mazda flair. The design theme is “FUTURE + SOUL x MODERN,” blending elegant styling with modern forms to create a fresh look. Clever touches like air passageways on the bonnet not only look futuristic but also boost aerodynamics and efficiency at high speeds.
But itβs whatβs under the skin that counts too. Mazda is promising that renowned “Jinba-Ittai” driving feel β that sense of oneness between car and driver β thanks to a 50:50 front/rear weight distribution (for the PHEV, 47:53 for the BEV), sophisticated suspension (strut front, multi-link rear), and electronically controlled dampers. You’ll have options too, with both battery electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models on offer to suit different needs.
The projected range is pretty impressive, with around 600km for the BEV and over 1,000km per refuel for the PHEV. Keep in mind these are provisional figures based on CLTC testing.
Inside, Mazda is packing in the tech that Chinese consumers love. Expect a smart cabin controllable by voice, touch, or gesture, along with intelligent drive and parking assist features. The driver and passengers will be treated to a massive 26.45-inch 5K integrated flat-panel centre display and a virtual 3D heads-up display. For the audiophiles, a 23-speaker system with 3D sound, including headrest speakers for individual listening, will deliver a premium audio experience.
Mazda’s Big China Push
Mazda’s President and CEO, Masahiro Moro, sounds pretty enthusiastic about this launch. He believes the EZ-60, alongside the EZ-6, will “break new ground for Mazda’s business in China in this highly competitive market”. This new model combines Mazdaβs inherent automotive appeal with advanced features specifically designed to resonate with tech-savvy Chinese customers.
Mazda reaffirms its commitment to the “Joy of Driving” under its “Radially Human” core value, aiming to deliver the “Joy of Living” through their vehicles. The EZ-60 certainly looks like a significant step in that direction for the Chinese market.
