Toyota Land Cruiser Se
The First Electric Land Cruiser to Debut at Japan Mobility Show
Toyota is known for its legendary off-road vehicles, such as the Land Cruiser, that can conquer any terrain and last for generations. But the Japanese automaker is not resting on its laurels, as it is preparing to unveil a new concept that could revolutionize the future of mobility: the Land Cruiser Se, the first electric Land Cruiser.
The Land Cruiser Se concept will make its world premiere at the Japan Mobility Show 2023, a new event that replaces the Tokyo Motor Show and showcases various forms of mobility from different industries and startups. The concept promises to offer a high-torque battery electric driving experience and a spacious three-row cabin for seven passengers.
The design of the Land Cruiser Se is strikingly different from the current production models, as it features a boxy and futuristic body with sharp edges and minimalistic details. The front fascia has a large “Toyota” script and a thin LED strip that connects the angular headlights. The side profile has a long wheelbase of 120.1 inches (3.05m), which is about eight inches longer than the regular 2024 Land Cruiser. The concept measures 202.8 inches (5,1m) long. The rear end has a similar LED strip that runs across the tailgate and a large “Land Cruiser” badge.
Toyota has not revealed much information about the powertrain or the performance of the Land Cruiser Se concept, except that it will provide a “high-torque driving experience” and “confidence in tackling tough terrain”. It is likely that the concept will have dual electric motors for all-wheel drive and a large battery pack for long range. However, it remains to be seen how the concept will fare in off-road situations, as it seems to have low ground clearance and low-profile tires.
The Land Cruiser Se concept is not the only electric vehicle that Toyota will showcase at the Japan Mobility Show 2023. The company will also display the Compact Cruiser EV concept, which is a smaller and cuter version of the Land Cruiser that looks like a competitor to the Ford Bronco Sport. Both concepts are part of Toyota’s vision to create diverse and sustainable mobility solutions for different needs and preferences.
The Japan Mobility Show 2023 will run from October 28 to November 5 at Tokyo Big Sight, where visitors can experience various forms of mobility in four different scenes: Life, Emergency, Play, and Food. The event will also feature entertainment stages, talk sessions, startup exhibitions, and children’s activities. The Land Cruiser Se concept and the Compact Cruiser EV concept are expected to be among the main attractions of the show.
