Avatr 12: A sleek and smart electric sedan with a panoramic roof

The Avatr 12 is a new electric sedan from the Chinese brand Avatr, which is a joint venture between Changan, Huawei, and CATL. The car made its global debut at the IAA Mobility in Munich on September 6, 2023, and impressed the audience with its futuristic design and advanced technology.

The Avatr 12 is based on a 750-volt platform that is shared with the Avatr 11, a coupé-like SUV that was launched in China earlier this year. The sedan measures 5,020 mm long, 1,999 mm wide, and 1,460 mm high, with a wheelbase of 3,020 mm. It has a coupé-like profile that resembles a shooting brake, and features pop-out door handles and a pop-out rear spoiler.

The most striking feature of the car is that it does not have a rear window, but instead has a large panoramic roof that extends to the back of the car. This gives the car a unique appearance and also provides more natural light and space for the passengers. The car also uses cameras instead of side mirrors for rearward visibility, which are integrated into the sleek LED headlights and taillights.

The interior of the Avatr 12 is equally impressive, as it features a wraparound dashboard covered in leather and a compact steering wheel with a flat top and bottom. The dashboard supports a 35.4-inch panoramic widescreen display that serves as the digital instrument cluster and the passenger display. There is also a floating central touchscreen that controls most of the vehicle functions. Other features include an electrochromic panoramic glass roof, Nappa leather seats, an ambient lighting system, a 27-speaker sound system, three nature-inspired fragrances, and a digital rearview mirror.

The Avatr 12 will be available in two powertrain options: a rear-wheel drive version with a single electric motor that produces 308 hp, and an all-wheel drive version with two electric motors that produce 578 hp. Both versions use a 94.5 kWh ternary lithium-ion battery pack from CATL that uses cell-to-pack technology. The range of the car is estimated to be 650 km for the rear-wheel drive version and 700 km for the all-wheel drive version, based on the Chinese test cycle.

The car also boasts of having the Huawei Advanced Driving System (ADS)-2.0 assistance package, which consists of 29 sensors (including three Lidar) and a powerful central computer. This system enables the car to have various intelligent driving capabilities, such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, traffic sign recognition, blind spot detection, parking assist, and more.

The Avatr 12 is expected to start production in China from September 6, 2023. However, there is no official information about the pricing and availability of the car in China or other markets. The unveiling of the car at the IAA Mobility in Munich suggests that Avatr has plans to export its cars to Europe and other regions in the future.

The Avatr 12 is a remarkable example of how Chinese car brands are innovating and competing in the global electric car market. The car combines a sleek and smart design with high performance and advanced technology, making it an attractive option for customers who are looking for a premium electric sedan with a difference.
