Hyundai has unveiled a new video, which showcases the intricate design of the forthcoming Kona Electric, a zero-emission vehicle slated for a 2024 release. The newest model boasts a host of distinct features that set it apart from its hybrid and ICE-powered counterparts.
The Hyundai Kona range features a unique design with full-width DRLs on both ends, split headlights and taillights, and a grille-less look. However, the Kona Electric goes above and beyond, incorporating LED pixel bars for a futuristic appearance. Other notable design elements include sleeker bumpers, smaller intakes, body-colored wheel arches, and exclusive five-spoke alloy wheels.
On the inside, the Kona Electric is fitted with a digital cockpit featuring two 12.3-inch screens arranged in a single panel, a shift-by-wire gear selector, and white upholstery. The dashboard features dual-zone climate control, heated seats, USB-C ports at the front and rear, a wireless charging pad, and cool-white ambient lighting. Additionally, the vehicle is equipped with advanced driver-assistance systems, including navigation-based Smart Cruise Control and Highway Driving Assist.
Hyundai suggests that the second-gen Kona is more spacious than its predecessor, which is evident from the video. While the official boot capacity with the rear seats folded is 723 lt (25.5 cubic feet), the video showcases that it is adequate for its segment.
Though the official specifications are yet to be released, it is expected that the 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric will share similarities with the Kia Niro EV, which boasts a 64.8 kWh battery pack and a single electric motor producing 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS). This allows for an estimated EPA range of 253 miles (407 km) between charges.
The 2024 Hyundai Kona was first unveiled in December 2022. The ICE and hybrid versions received more information in January 2023, and the Kona Electric will receive the same treatment in March.
