Get Ready: Xpeng Unveils the Sharp New P7!

Hold onto your hats, EV fans! Xpeng is pulling the covers off the next generation of its all-electric P7 sports saloon, and from the first look, this thing means serious business. Dubbed internally as the E29, this isn’t just a little nip-and-tuck; Xpeng CEO He Xiaopeng himself says they’re “not just updating a car, weāre bringing the future forward” with this new model. Designed by Rafik Ferrag, the same talent behind the original P7, this Mk2 has been progressively worked on and refined over five years through ‘countless’ iterations. Let’s check out what we know so far.
A Sharper, More Athletic Look
The design is certainly eye-catching, looking like a pretty bold leap forward from the previous model. You’ll immediately notice the sweeping fastback roofline and potentially flashy headlights. The headlights are described as Polestar 3-like clusters, and there’s a thick panel gap that runs from the aggressive nose back to the A-pillar. Out back, there’s a similar set of lights joined by that fastback shape and an active rear wing that pops out from the tailgate.

Teaser images and spy shots hint at a range of modern touches, including a full-width taillight with a revised signature, flush door handles, and even frameless side mirrors. While the front and rear styling share some similarities with the P7+, the E29 adds design elements specifically to improve aerodynamic performance. It certainly looks handsome.
Tech That Aims for the AI Era
While we haven’t seen official interior shots yet, spy photos give us a peek: expect a large central touchscreen, a three-spoke steering wheel with circular controls, and maybe even a purple leather upholstery option.
On the tech front, Xpeng is packing heat. This new P7 is expected to feature the latest version of Xpeng’s in-car software, Xmart OS 2.0, complete with voice control support and potentially even an augmented reality head-up display. It’s expected to be a ‘major’ technological upgrade over the previous car.

Xpeng is also pushing forward with its driver assistance systems. The new P7 may feature a vision-based advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), possibly powered by their next-generation Turing AI chip. Interestingly, this could mean the E29 relies solely on cameras for environmental sensing, unlike some current Xpeng models that use lidar. The first-gen P7+ already had Level-Two (semi-autonomous) driver assist and an ‘AI Hawkeye Visual Solution’ using cameras and radars to detect danger. With CEO He Xiaopeng calling the new P7 Xpeng’s “answer for the AI era in form and function,” expect cutting-edge intelligence.
Performance & Platform Potential
Under the skin, the new P7 will, of course, remain fully electric. While specific output figures haven’t been confirmed, the goal is clear: it wants to be a proper sports saloon. For reference, the P7i offers up to 348 kW in its dual-motor AWD setup, with a CLTC range of up to 702 kilometers. The previous Mk1 AWD version hit 0-62mph in 4.3 seconds, and the new P7 is expected to better these figures.
The P7+ brought 800-volt architecture and computing power from big names like Qualcomm and Nvidia. It’s safe to assume the new car will get these and more, paving the way for the company’s future products. There’s also speculation that the E29 might debut Xpeng‘s new “Kunpeng” EV platform, with some industry observers even wondering if it could eventually support range-extended powertrains ā though that’s definitely not officially confirmed.
For battery range, the Mk1’s largest battery (86.2kWh) offered up to 358 miles between charges. We’ll have to wait for official numbers for the new model.

Safety and Practical Touches
Safety is covered, too; the new P7 has already passed both the Chinese and European NCAP safety tests with five-star ratings. And for a bit of practicality, a hatchback-style trunk is also anticipated, which should boost usability.
When Can We See It?
The new P7 is a model aimed at the global market, with Xpeng deciding availability based on demand in different regions. While there’s no confirmation yet on a UK/EU launch date, it’s expected, especially as Xpeng’s G6 SUV just arrived there, soon to be followed by the X9.
For China, the launch is expected in July-August or more broadly in the third quarter of 2025. It will be a replacement for the P7i sedan currently on sale. Xpeng has indicated it will be priced around RMB 300,000 yuan in China. Keep an eye out; the debut might happen at the Guangzhou Auto Show. Oh, and wouldn’t it be great if it inherited the X9’s karaoke machine? We certainly hope so!
