Design & Platform: Iconic Look, Modern Foundations
Looking at the design, the new Compass proudly showcases the brand’s heritage. You’ll find those unmistakable Jeep features like the seven-slot grille, trapezoidal wheel arches, and rugged cladding. These aren’t just for show; they honor the brand’s history while ensuring the vehicle keeps its signature look and off-road ability. They’ve even engineered functionality and safety into the design, adding features like an anti-scratch modular Jeep shield and reinforced bumpers for extra protection. The vehicle’s radar has even been cleverly repositioned to prevent damage.
Underneath it all, the new Compass is built upon the cutting-edge Stellantis STLA Medium platform. This platform is tailored to support electrification in the C and D segments, promising exceptional range, rapid charging, optimal efficiency, and high performance. Despite its capability, the new Compass is one of the most compact vehicles built on this platform, measuring just 4.55m in total length. But don’t mistake compact for cramped! The design tuned on this platform offers a space-efficient formula, providing an extra 55 mm of additional legroom. You’ll also find more storage with a 34-liter front interior compartment and an increased boot capacity by 45 liters, reaching up to 550L. The 40/20/40 rear seat split comes standard across all versions for maximum flexibility.
You can even pick a color that evokes nature, with options like Hawaii (a bright green), Pacific (blue), Antarctica (white), Amazonia (brownish green), Yosemite (grey), and Vulcano (black).
Capability: More Than Just Off-Road
Jeep capability isn’t just for the trails anymore. The sources tell us this legendary capability is extended across the range, even including the front-wheel drive version, which will be 100% capable. For those who love the rough stuff, the new Compass boasts impressive figures: up to 200 mm ground clearance, 20° approach angle, 15° breakover angle, and 26° departure angle. It can also handle water fording up to 470 mm.
Selec-Terrain will be standard on all versions to help customers in challenging situations, just like on the Avenger. The all-wheel drive versions step it up further with special design features resulting in 27° approach, 16° breakover, and 31° departure angles, plus improved ground clearance and water fording. Hill descent control is also standard on AWD versions. New suspension tuning aims for a good balance between handling and comfort. The 360-degree protection, also seen on the Avenger, is available to protect the vehicle.
Technology: Connected and Autonomous
Tech is a big part of the package, making the new Compass an “all-inclusive value proposition”. Standard on the entire lineup is a new infotainment system featuring a 10″ cluster and a 16″ radio. Connected services keep the vehicle updated with over-the-air (OTA) updates. For added safety and convenience, Level 2 autonomous driving will be there to support customers on longer trips or in congested urban areas, standard across the line. You can even enhance the experience with a head-up display, semi-automatic lane change, Matrix LED lights, and Mobile Phone access. Some of these are forward-looking features often found only in premium segments.
Powertrains: A Range for Every Need
This is where things get really interesting. The new Compass offers an expanded engine range with three powertrain options: e-Hybrid, e-Hybrid plug-in, and full electric. This provides customers with a lot of freedom of choice.
•48V Hybrid: A 145 HP option.
•Hybrid Plug-in: A 195 HP option.
•BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle): This is a big step! There are three BEV versions available, ranging from 213hp in the front-wheel drive version up to a “stunning” 375hp in the all-wheel drive. Jeep specifically introduced a new, more powerful rear electric motor on the platform just for the brand to achieve that 375 HP figure. This rear motor provides an extra 49 kW peak power and up to 232 Nm torque, which, coupled with a 14:1 rear reducer, translates to a massive 3100Nm available at the rear wheels! This is designed for maximum traction in tough spots, even climbing a 20% slope with no traction up front.
◦The BEV range goes up to 650 km.
◦Charging is quick with a 160kW DC rapid charging solution offering a 20-80% recharge in 30 minutes. An onboard charger supports up to 22kW.
The aerodynamics have even been improved by 10% (achieving a CX value of less than 0.3) with features like Active Grill Shutters, air ducts, sharp rear edges, and a flat underbody.
Production and Debut
The all-new Jeep Compass debuted in Italy. Production is happening at the Melfi plant in Italy. This plant is a key hub for Stellantis’ electrification strategy, known for its automation and focus on sustainability. Sales and production kick off in Europe before expanding globally.
Fabio Catone, Head of Jeep Brand in Enlarged Europe, sees the new Compass as representing the brand’s forward-thinking philosophy and dedication to meeting and anticipating market demands. He calls it a powerful testament to their pursuit of innovation and versatility.
The First Edition
For early adopters, there’s a First Edition available to order now. This is a limited-time special offer. You can get it with either the 48V e-Hybrid (145 hp) or the BEV variant (213 hp Front Wheel Drive). The BEV version in the First Edition boasts a 500 km range.
The First Edition highlights the key development pillars: it sports up to 20-inch wheels, LED matrix headlights, keeps that unmistakable boxy Jeep design, and offers optimized off-road angles with Select Terrain. It also includes the 360° protective material to shield the lower vehicle from scratches. Comfort is covered with heated seats (cloth & vinyl) and driver lumbar adjustment. Safety features include Level 2 autonomous driving, front and rear parking sensors, and a rear parking camera. There are optional packages too, including ventilated/massaging seats, an open-air sunroof, and semi-automated lane change.
