Volkswagen has unveiled the updated and upgraded 2024 ID.4 and ID.5 crossover models. Among the innovations are a completely new rear drive unit, a new multimedia system, faster charging, and more.
The most significant upgrade is the new rear drive unit, which is the same unit that was first introduced with the Volkswagen ID.7. It produces 286 horsepower and 56 kgm of torque, a significant increase over the 204 horsepower and 31.6 kgm of the outgoing model. For the dual-motor Pro 4MOTION versions, the power output is identical.

Volkswagen has not released acceleration data, but the top speed has increased from 160 km/h to 180 km/h.
The battery capacity remained at 77kWh, but thanks to a more efficient drive unit and a new energy management system, the Volkswagen ID4 has a range of 550 kilometers, 17 kilometers more than the previous model. The fast charging power remains at 135kW, and Volkswagen says that 10 minutes of charging is enough to add 178 kilometers to the range. Volkswagen will also continue to sell the ID4 in a base model with a 54kWh battery.
The Volkswagen ID4 GTX sporty versions have received a power boost, with the new rear engine producing 340 horsepower, an increase of 40 horsepower. This results in a faster 0-100 km/h time of 5.4 seconds, down from 6.2 seconds.
The Volkswagen ID4 has received a major interior upgrade, including a new multimedia system with a larger 12.9″ touchscreen, a new graphical interface, and improved voice control. The climate control and volume controls have also been updated, and the driving mode selector has been moved. Buyers of the model will be able to upgrade the sound experience with a 10 speakers Harman Kardon system.
