Lynk & Co 06 EM-P: A Stylish and Powerful Plug-in Hybrid SUV

Lynk & Co introduced the updated version of the 06 EM-P

Lynk & Co, the joint venture between Geely and Volvo, has recently unveiled its latest model, the 06 EM-P. This subcompact SUV is a facelifted version of the previous 06, but with a new design, a revamped interior, and a more potent plug-in hybrid powertrain. The 06 EM-P is expected to hit the Chinese market by the end of 2023, with a starting price of around 180,000 yuan (24,700 USD).

Design: A New Urban Aesthetic

The 06 EM-P adopts the new design language that Lynk & Co introduced with the larger 08 fastback crossover earlier this year. The front fascia features split LED headlights that are mounted on top of the hood, while the main lamps are integrated into the grille. The rear end has a large LED light bar that connects the taillights. The side profile is largely unchanged, with a distinctive greenhouse and black cladding around the wheel arches.

The 06 EM-P measures 4,350 mm in length, 1,820 mm in width, and 1,625 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,640 mm. It shares the same B-segment Modular Architecture (BMA) platform with other Geely models, such as the Icon, Binyue (Coolray), and Emgrand.

Interior: A Minimalist and Modern Cabin

The interior of the 06 EM-P has been overhauled to offer a more minimalist and modern look. The dashboard is dominated by a large floating touchscreen that controls the infotainment system. The instrument cluster is also digital, and the steering wheel has a sporty three-spoke design. The center console has no physical buttons, except for the gear shifter that is located on the steering column. The climate vents are slimmer, and there are two wireless charging pads for smartphones. The sun visors have tinted glass mirrors that add a touch of luxury.

The 06 EM-P can accommodate five passengers comfortably, with high-quality materials and ample storage space. The trunk capacity is not disclosed, but it should be similar to the previous model’s 335 liters.

Powertrain: A Plug-in Hybrid with 295 HP and 102 km of Electric Range

The most impressive aspect of the 06 EM-P is its plug-in hybrid powertrain that consists of a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine and two electric motors. The combined output is 295 hp (220 kW / 299 PS) and 568 Nm (419 lb-ft) of torque, which makes it more powerful than any other version of the outgoing 06. The battery pack has a capacity of 19.1 kWh, which allows the SUV to travel up to 102 km on electric power alone, according to the CLTC standards. The fuel consumption is rated at 4.98 L/100 km.

The performance figures of the 06 EM-P are not revealed yet, but it should be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than eight seconds and reach a top speed of over 200 km/h. The SUV also has four driving modes: Eco, Normal, Sport, and EV.

Conclusion: A Competitive and Attractive Option in the Subcompact SUV Segment

The Lynk & Co 06 EM-P is a significant improvement over its predecessor in terms of design, interior, and powertrain. It offers a stylish and powerful plug-in hybrid SUV that can compete with other models in its segment, such as the Toyota C-HR or the Hyundai Kona. The price tag of around 24,700 USD also makes it an affordable option for Chinese customers who are looking for a premium and eco-friendly vehicle.
