Mazda MX-5 Miata is updated for 2024

Mazda has updated its iconic Miata roadster with a series of design and technological updates to keep it fresh for the 2024 model year.

Mazda has given its iconic MX-5 roadster a facelift for the 2024 model year, with a series of design and technological updates. The facelift suggests that a completely new MX-5 will not be shown before 2028, as Mazda is trying to extend the life of the current gasoline model as long as possible.

The Mazda MX-5’s engine has remained unchanged since the update at the end of 2018. It is a 2.0-liter unit that produces 183 horsepower and 20.9 kg-m of torque. The transmission options are the same as before, with a choice of six-speed manual or automatic. The main change is an acoustic improvement that is designed to make the engine sound more audible to the driver.

The Mazda MX-5’s cabin has been updated with a new 8.8-inch infotainment screen running the latest Mazda Connect software. The new screen is larger and more responsive than the previous screen, and it also supports online services. These services include the ability to check the vehicle status from a smartphone app or automatically call emergency services in case of an emergency.

The Mazda MX-5 has received a number of exterior updates, including:

      • New 17-inch wheel design
      • New headlight and taillight signatures
      • New body color (blue)
      • New roof/upholstery color combinations for RF models
      • In addition, adaptive cruise control has been added to models in the Japanese market. It is not yet clear if this feature will be offered in other markets.

Mazda has made a number of mechanical improvements to the 2024 MX-5, including:

        • A new asymmetric limited-slip differential for improved handling
        • A “Track” mode for electronic stability control
        • Reduced friction in the electric steering system for improved feel
        • Improved throttle pedal tuning for a more natural feel

The updated MX-5 is expected to arrive in markets in the first quarter of 2024. Prices have increased by about 5 percent.
