Honda is gearing up to launch its first long-range electric SUV in North America, the 2024 Honda Prologue. The name Prologue signifies the beginning of a new chapter for the Japanese automaker, as it plans to introduce 30 hybrid, battery-electric, and fuel-cell vehicles by 2030. The Prologue is a result of a joint development agreement with General Motors, and will share its platform and battery technology with the Chevrolet Blazer EV.
The Prologue will be positioned above the CR-V in Honda’s lineup, and will offer a spacious and tech-rich cabin with plenty of room for passengers and cargo. The exterior design is sleek and understated, with simple LED lighting elements, a panoramic sunroof, and muscular 21-inch wheels. The interior features an 11.3-inch center display that supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Google built-in. The sound system is provided by Bose, and the seats are leather-trimmed and heated.
The Prologue will be powered by GM’s Ultium battery packs, which are expected to deliver an impressive driving range of around 300 miles per charge. The SUV will also offer fast charging capabilities, allowing it to gain about 65 miles of range in just 10 minutes. Honda will also provide home charging solutions and public charging credits for its customers, as well as discounts on home chargers and free AC cord-sets.
The Prologue will be available in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations, with dual motors producing a combined output of 288 horsepower. The SUV will also come with advanced safety and driver-assist features, such as blind zone steering assist and parking assist.
The Prologue is expected to go on sale in early 2024, with a starting price of around $48,000. Honda has not yet revealed the full details of the trim levels and options, but interested buyers can sign up for updates on the official website. The Prologue will compete with other electric SUVs in the market, such as the Ford Mustang Mach-E, the Hyundai Ioniq 5, and the Tesla Model Y.
The Prologue is a bold move for Honda, as it aims to establish itself as a leader in the electric vehicle segment. The SUV promises to deliver a sporty driving experience with sustainability, while offering a high level of comfort and convenience. The Prologue is not just a new model, but a new era for Honda.
