Jeep Wrangler Gets a Facelift and a Plug-in Hybrid Option for Europe
The Jeep Wrangler, one of the most iconic and capable off-road SUVs in the world, is getting a facelift for the 2024 model year in Europe. The updated Wrangler features a new grille design, improved cooling efficiency, a stealth antenna, new wheel options, and more technology and safety features inside. The Wrangler also offers a plug-in hybrid powertrain option, the Wrangler 4xe, which delivers zero-emission freedom and enhanced performance.
New Exterior Design
The 2024 Jeep Wrangler retains its distinctive seven-slot grille, but introduces a new look with black textured slots, neutral gray metallic bezels, and body-color surrounds. The new grille design not only enhances the vehicleβs appearance, but also improves cooling efficiency by increasing airflow to the engine compartment. Additionally, a trail-ready stealth antenna integrated into the front windshield replaces the previous steel mast antenna, offering a streamlined and snag-free design.
The 2024 Wrangler also offers five all-new wheel designs, ranging from 17 to 20 inches in diameter. The wheels are available in different finishes, such as black painted aluminum, polished aluminum with gray spokes, or machined aluminum with black pockets. The Wrangler also features multiple open-air freedom options, including the exclusive Sky One-Touch power top, which allows drivers to retract the full-length canvas roof with the touch of a button.
Refined Interior with More Technology and Amenities
Inside the 2024 Wrangler, customers will find a refined interior loaded with more advanced technology and amenities. The centerpiece is the standard 12.3-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen infotainment system, the largest and most advanced display ever offered on a Wrangler. The system runs an updated software that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as over-the-air updates and personalization features.
The 2024 Wrangler also offers standard 12-way power adjustable front seats with leather trim and memory function. The seats are heated and ventilated, and feature a new lumbar support system for added comfort. The instrument panel has been redesigned to accommodate the new Uconnect 5 system, and features a digital cluster display that shows vital information such as speed, fuel level, tire pressure, and more.
The 2024 Wrangler also adds standard side curtain airbags in the first and second rows, enhancing occupant protection in case of a rollover or side impact. Other safety features include standard Drowsy Driver Alert, Lane Departure Warning, and Traffic Sign Information systems. The Wrangler also offers optional features such as Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Path Detection, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning Plus, ParkSense rear park assist system, ParkView rear backup camera with dynamic grid lines, and more.
Plug-in Hybrid Powertrain Option: The Wrangler 4xe
The new 2024 Wrangler 4xe is the plug-in hybrid version of the Wrangler, which combines a four-cylinder combustion engine and a hybrid system with a total output of 380 horsepower. The Wrangler 4xe can run on pure electric power for up to 40 kilometers (25 miles), or use a combination of electric and combustion power for longer journeys. The Wrangler 4xe also has various E Selec modes that allow drivers to tailor the hybrid powertrain to suit their driving needs, whether itβs maximizing efficiency, performance, or off-road capability.
The Wrangler 4xe is part of Jeepβs goal of Zero Emission Freedom in its effort to become the greenest SUV brand in the world. The plug-in hybrid powertrain not only reduces emissions and fuel consumption, but also enhances the off-road performance of the Wrangler by providing instant torque delivery from the electric motors. The Wrangler 4xe also features regenerative braking, which recovers energy during deceleration and braking and stores it in the battery pack for later use.
The Wrangler 4xe will be the major player version in Europe for the 2024 model year. However, for those looking for a more traditional combustion engine option, a limited batch of the 2024 Wrangler models with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine will be available in select European markets. This engine produces 272 horsepower and comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It will be available in very limited numbers in countries such as Germany, Italy, Poland, and Spain.
Availability and Pricing
The updated 2024 Jeep Wrangler will go on sale in Europe in Sahara and Rubicon models. The first vehicles will start to arrive in European Jeep dealerships in the first half of 2024. The pricing and specifications for each market will be announced closer to the launch date. The 2024 Wrangler is expected to compete with other off-road SUVs such as the Land Rover Defender, the Toyota Land Cruiser, and the Mercedes-Benz G-Class.
