Audi Q8 and SQ8 get a fresh look and new tech for 2024

Audi has unveiled the facelift versions of its flagship SUVs, the Q8 and the SQ8, at the Munich Motor Show. The 2024 models feature a sleeker design, new LED lighting technology, and more customization options.

The Q8 and the SQ8 are based on the same platform as the electric Q8 e-tron, which was also refreshed for 2024. The gas-powered SUVs share some of the styling cues with their electric sibling, such as the streamlined grille that flows smoothly into the headlights. The air intakes in the front bumper have been enlarged, and the exhaust tips have been redesigned. The SQ8 also gets a sportier front spoiler and rear diffuser, as well as aluminum accents on the grille, side mirrors, and air inlets.

The most noticeable change in the front is the new Matrix LED headlights, which can be optionally upgraded to HD Matrix LED headlights with laser light for the high beam. The laser light can increase the range of the high beam to up to 500 meters, and is automatically activated at speeds above 70 km/h. The headlights also have four different lighting signatures that can be selected via the infotainment system. The rear lights have been simplified and can be equipped with OLED technology, which offers more brightness and contrast. The OLED lights also have a safety feature that activates all the elements when a car behind comes within two meters of a stationary Q8.

The 2024 Q8 and SQ8 are available in three new colors: Chili Red, Ascari Blue, and Sakhir Gold. The SUVs also offer five new wheel designs, ranging from 21 to 23 inches in diameter. The model name and trim level are displayed on the B-pillar, following the trend set by the e-tron models.

The interior of the Q8 and SQ8 remains largely unchanged, but Audi has added some new materials and features. The SUVs offer nine different decorative inlays, including fine grain ash, carbon twill, and aluminum linear silver grey. The upholstery choices have also been expanded, with leather, Alcantara, and fabric options. The infotainment system has been updated with more apps, such as Spotify, and supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The powertrains of the Q8 and SQ8 carry over unchanged from the previous models. The Q8 is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine that produces 335 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and a quattro all-wheel-drive system. The Q8 also has a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that can recover energy under braking, smooth out the start-stop function, and allow the SUV to coast with the engine off for up to 40 seconds.

The SQ8 uses a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine that delivers 500 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque. The engine is also mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and a quattro all-wheel-drive system. The SQ8 also has a sport differential that can distribute torque between the rear wheels for better handling.

The 2024 Audi Q8 and SQ8 will go on sale in the United States this winter, with pricing and full U.S. specifications coming soon. The SUVs will compete with rivals such as the BMW X6, Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe, and Porsche Cayenne Coupe.
