Just four months after revealing the concept model, BYD unveils the first images of the production version of the Song L. This new electric crossover SUV from BYD is set to enter the Chinese market in the last quarter of this year. At this stage, it’s unclear whether we will see this model in our regions, but if so, it might be marketed under a different name.
Like other modern BYD models, the Song L is based on the company’s e-platform 3.0. This platform also underpins models like the e3 and Dolphin. With a length of 4840 mm, width of 1950 mm, height of 1560 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,930 mm, the Song L is a spacious crossover SUV. It’s reminiscent of BYD’s Tang model, but slightly shorter by 20 cm and with an additional 11 cm in wheelbase length.
At this point, only the design of the model has been revealed. However, it’s already known that the model will utilize blade batteries in the CTB configuration. This means the battery cells are directly connected to the frame without an intermediary casing. This significantly reduces the weight of the vehicle or, alternatively, allows for more battery cells to be used to achieve a longer driving range, among other benefits.
Additionally, the model will be offered with an advanced suspension control system called DiSus-A. This system includes adaptive dampers and variable air springs with continuous control, all aimed at providing high ride comfort without compromising the vehicle’s handling and dynamic capabilities.
BYD hasn’t provided specific details about the model’s powertrain units, but it’s reasonable to assume they will be similar to BYD’s SiL powertrain – a battery with a capacity of up to 82 kWh paired with a dual-motor setup delivering 528 horsepower.
Apart from minor design changes, the production version of the BYD Song L retains the stunning and dynamic design of the concept model.
