Toyota is gearing up to deliver an exciting update to its GR86 sports car lineup for the 2024 model year. The latest offering includes the highly anticipated GR86 Trueno Edition, paying homage to the iconic AE86 Corolla, and an optional Performance package that enhances the vehicle’s driving dynamics.
The Trueno Edition takes inspiration from the legendary AE86 Sprinter Trueno of the 1980s, infusing it with modern aesthetics and performance enhancements. Available in the United States, the Trueno Edition GR86 is offered in two distinctive colors: white or red. This special edition features a striking two-tone color scheme, adorned with black accents. Notable exterior elements include a black hood, black side stripes, a black duckbill spoiler, and black trim on the door handles and mirrors. Trueno badges adorn the front and rear of the vehicle, while the interior boasts red leather accents, red stitching, and Trueno logos on the shift knob and floor mats.
In addition to the Trueno Edition, Toyota offers a Performance package that elevates the driving experience of the GR86. This package, available for both the Trueno Edition and other 2024 GR86 models, introduces several performance enhancements. It includes Sachs dampers and Brembo brakes, featuring larger-diameter rotors than the standard configuration, resulting in improved braking performance. The front rotors measure 12.8 inches, while the rear rotors measure 12.4 inches. Toyota will provide the Performance package as a dealer-installed option and even offer retrofitting for existing 2022 and 2023 GR86 owners equipped with 18-inch wheels.
For enthusiasts who prefer a manual transmission, Toyota has expanded the availability of driver-assist systems. Previously exclusive to automatic transmission models, features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and automatic emergency braking are now included in manual-transmission GR86 models.
The Trueno Edition and Performance package are part of Toyota’s commitment to providing a thrilling and engaging driving experience. While pricing details for the 2024 GR86 and its new options have not been released yet, Toyota expects to reveal more information before the vehicle goes on sale later this year. Car enthusiasts and fans of the GR86 can look forward to the launch of these exciting additions, embracing the spirit of the past while embracing the performance of the future.
