Is it a Clio or a… Colt?

Mitsubishi launches the updated Colt, which is...an updated Renault Clio

The 2024 Mitsubishi Colt is a new-generation hatchback that shares its platform with the updated Renault Clio, showcasing a collaboration between the two automakers. The Colt will be produced at Renault’s Bursa plant in Turkey and is scheduled to reach European dealers in October 2024.

In terms of design, the Mitsubishi Colt features the brand’s Dynamic Shield design language, with a tweaked front bumper and distinct L-shaped LED daytime running lights and LED headlights. It retains the overall resemblance to the Renault Clio but incorporates Mitsubishi’s unique styling cues.

One notable highlight of the new Colt is the availability of a hybrid (HEV) model. The hybrid variant combines a 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol engine, two electric motors, and a 1.2 kWh battery, offering a total system output of 105 kW (141 hp). The hybrid powertrain setup is identical to the Renault Clio E-Tech Hybrid. Additional engine options include a 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine paired with a six-speed manual transmission and a 1.0-liter naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine with a five-speed manual transmission.

Inside the Colt, depending on the specification, you can find either a 7.0-inch or a 9.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The cabin offers ambient lighting and an available Bose premium sound system, ensuring an enhanced driving experience. In terms of safety, the Colt comes equipped with features like autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control with stop/go, traffic sign recognition, easy park assist, and automatic high-beam.

The Mitsubishi Colt is a revival of the nameplate, which had a long history and was previously discontinued in 2012. Mitsubishi decided to reintroduce the Colt badge and based the new model on existing Renault products, marking a strategic shift in their product lineup.

In conclusion, the 2024 Mitsubishi Colt is a hatchback that showcases the collaboration between Mitsubishi and Renault, sharing the platform with the Renault Clio. It offers a range of engine options, including a hybrid variant, along with various safety features and modern infotainment options.
