Audi A6 and A7 are two of Audi’s offerings in the sedan segment. The A6 is available as a sedan or classic station wagon, while the A7 is a striking four-door coupe. Both cars are quite mature, nearing the end of their current life cycles, as the A6 was introduced in early 2018, and the A7 was introduced in 2017.
Despite their age, it seems that Audi is not planning to introduce immediate successors for these models. There are rumors and reports suggesting that Audi is working on an electric offering in the segment, which could be the reason for the recent minor update announced by the manufacturer.
The current facelift is of a particularly subtle nature and does not include changes in powertrain offerings or technological updates.
As part of its aesthetic update, the four-ring brand restructures the Audi A6, A6 Avant, and A7 Sportback lineups, offering customers a simplified range with greater customization options.
Trims
Customers can now select between the Basic, Advanced, S line, and Black line trim levels. The A6 sedan is available in all four trim levels, but the A6 Avant is only available in the S line and Black line trim levels, and the A7 Sportback is only available in the S line and Black line trim levels.
Each equipment line is distinguished by its front and back design characteristics. The Singleframe grille with honeycomb construction is the new distinguishing feature at the front. The front is finished in matte black with a chrome frame in the basic form, and it is joined by a new design of full LED headlights with a curved daytime running light trademark for the A6. The radiator grille in the Advanced line is dark chrome-plated, the front has side air intakes, and the rear has a newly designed diffuser with a silver selenite finish strip. It also comes with 18-inch sporty design wheels and synthetic leather seats.
The Singleframe grille has chrome accents in the S level trim. The A6 sports a new platinum gray rear diffuser, while the A7 has a chrome finish. This kit also features modified front side air intakes with matte black parts and platinum gray accents, enlarged side sills, 19-inch wheels, and sports suspension for the Audi A6. Furthermore, the A6 has standard Audi Matrix LED headlights with dynamic rear turn signals, whereas the A7 has 20-inch wheels and HD Matrix LED headlights with dynamic turn signals.
With the S line interior package, which is part of the standard equipment, the cabin features a black color scheme, including the dashboard and roof lining. The multifunction sport steering wheel with shift paddles is leather-wrapped, perforated in the grip area, and features contrast stitching, while the footrests and pedals are made of stainless steel. This interior package includes a mixed upholstery of leather and “Sequenz” fabric for the Audi A6, and leather and Dinamica “Frequenz” microfiber with the S logo engraved on the front seat backs for the Audi A7. The illuminated door sill trims with aluminum inserts display the S logo at the front. As for the Black line trim, in addition to the traditional elements of this line, such as the black styling package, the flattened three-spoke leather steering wheel, and tinted windows, it incorporates darkened HD Matrix LED headlights with dynamic turn signals and animation for the A6, and 21-inch wheels for the A7.
The Audi S6 and Audi S7 models receive a Singleframe grille with aluminum-look inserts and more prominent front side air intakes, finished in matte black for the Audi S6 and dark chrome for the S7. In both models, the front spoiler is painted in selenite silver, and the standard equipment also includes HD Matrix LED headlights.
Regarding the Audi A6 Allroad, which does not receive the aesthetic modifications of the A6 and A6 Avant, the standard equipment now includes Matrix LED headlights, synthetic leather upholstery, tinted windows, 19-inch wheels, and ISOFIX anchorages on the front passenger seat.
Dark rims
The Audi A6 and A7 wheel ranges have been completely changed to reflect considerable consumer demand for dark rims; more than half of the versions now have dark rims. The Audi A6 Sedan and Avant come standard with 17-inch 10-spoke forged aluminum wheels and 225/60 tires. For a more sporty look, the 18-inch multi-spoke wheels have been finished in Graphite Gray. There are also 19-inch wheels with a dynamic 5-arm design. The high-gloss 20-inch Platinum Gray wheels with a 10-spoke star design are now available in Black Metallic, while 21-inch Graphite Gray wheels with a high-gloss finish and a striking 5 double-spoke-V design provide dark highlights. The 5-arm 21-inch wheels, inspired by motorsport, are completely new to the A6 model line. The airy shape of the design promotes brake cooling.
The 19-inch wheels with 10-Y spokes on the A7 Sportback now come in Graphite Gray. The S7’s standard 5-arm double-spoke 20-inch wheels are finished in a sophisticated Platinum Gray. The polished 21-inch wheels in a 5-arm parallel spoke design are exceedingly classy. Audi Sport’s high-gloss 20-inch wheels in a 5-segment-spoke Evo design in matte black and the 21-inch wheels in the classic 5-arm multi-spoke design in Matte Dark Gray are also new additions to the lineup.
New colors and interior and exterior materials
The Audi A6 and A7 models, as well as their S versions, now come in a total of twelve exterior colors. The range now contains Arkona White and Madeira Brown metallics for the first time. The S models, as well as the S line and Black line trims, are available in Granadine Red metallic and Ascari Blue metallic.
The interior decorative inserts are presented in five different variants, with new additions such as the Volcano Gray ash wood finish or the Dinamica microfiber coatings. New wheel designs, both standard and optional, are incorporated into all trim lines.
Interior enhancements
Audi’s virtual cockpit is now standard equipment. It has a fully digital instrument panel with a 12.3-inch screen and a 1,920 x 720 pixel resolution. The Audi virtual cockpit is controlled by the multifunction steering wheel, and drivers can choose between the classic view and the infotainment mode. Park assist plus is now standard as well.
