Ford introduces the Torneo Courier shortly after the new Transit Courier. The first iteration of the model is the closed commercial version, and the second iteration is the more opulent passenger version. As a result, the Transit Courier and Torneo Courier directly compete with the Citroen Berlingo Van and Berlingo Multispace, respectively.
The Torneo Courier won’t have a diesel engine like the model’s commercial counterpart, but it will be available with either one gasoline engine or an electric version. A 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission is available to go with the petrol engine, a 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbo engine with a power output of 125 horsepower.
The front-mounted motor in the model’s electric variant has a maximum torque of 29.6 kgm and a power output of 134 hp. Ford has not yet disclosed the model’s other specifications, which is understandable given that it won’t be available until the second half of 2024. The car has a top speed of 145 km/h.
The charging time from 10% to 100% on this model, which features an integrated charger that supports home AC charging with a power output of up to 11 kW, is 5.7 hours. With a power output of 100 kW, fast DC charging is also feasible. Charging from 10% to 80% takes 35 minutes, and a 10-minute charge can increase the driving range by about 87 km. Ford claims that the model’s electric variant has a regenerative braking system and one-pedal operation.
In addition to the standard passenger version, the new Ford Torneo Courier will also be sold in an Active version that has a robust grille, a contrasting roof, and other features that give it a crossover appearance. There is no higher suspension like in other Ford Active models, but there is a special calibration for traction control when traveling on difficult dirt roads.
Based on the Fiesta, the most recent generation of the Courier also gained a similar-feeling passenger compartment. This model features a separate, dedicated passenger area, and like many contemporary vans, the inside has a more private car-like feel with all the benefits that a vehicle of this type can provide for five passengers.
There are many functional storage areas, as well as a sizable cargo room with a capacity of 570 to 1,200 liters (up to the window line) and the choice of completely eliminating the third row of seats. There is an additional front cargo space with a 44-liter capacity in the model’s electric variant.
The vehicle is available in all trim levels and features Ford’s cutting-edge SYNC 4 technology. The instrument cluster comes with a pair of huge 12.3-inch screens in the higher trim levels as opposed to the base models’ 8-inch, half-digital instrument cluster screen. In addition to voice control, OTA updates, wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, and a remote control app, the SYNC 4 system also offers extra control choices in the electrified version. As usual, a number of cutting-edge safety measures are now offered in addition to the comfort amenities.
