Polestar has released details of the forthcoming electric SUV coupé, to be named Polestar 4. The new model combines the aerodynamics of a coupé, the space of an SUV and the technology for the electric age. The Polestar 4 is expected to arrive in 2024 as a rival to the Porsche Macan EV, the Tesla Model Y and the Audi Q4 Sportback E-tron.
Power and Performance
The 2024 Polestar 4 will be available in both single and dual-motor versions. The single-motor version will have a rear-wheel drive configuration and a power output of 268 horsepower. It will be able to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 7.4 seconds and have an estimated range of up to 372 miles on a single charge.
The dual-motor version will have a four-wheel drive configuration and a power output of 537 horsepower. It will be able to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 3.8 seconds and have an estimated range of up to 350 miles on a single charge. This makes the Polestar 4 the fastest-accelerating car Polestar has ever made.
Both versions will use a 94 kWh battery pack that can be charged at rates of up to 200 kW. This means that a 5-80% charge can be achieved in as little as 32 minutes at a fast-charging station. The battery pack will also have a Vehicle to Load capability, which allows the Polestar 4 to power external devices or even another electric car.
A Stunning Display of Design and Technology
The 2024 Polestar 4 will feature a sleek and sporty design, with slim LED lights, flush door handles, 22-inch alloy wheels and a panoramic glass roof. The roof will eliminate the need for a rear window, which will improve the aerodynamics and reduce the drag coefficient to 0.269. The rear-view mirror will be replaced by a high-definition screen fed by a roof-mounted camera.
The interior of the Polestar 4 will be spacious and luxurious, with seating for five people and premium materials such as vegan leather, recycled fabrics and wood. The dashboard will be dominated by a 15.4-inch touchscreen that runs on Android-based software. The touchscreen will offer various functions such as Google Maps navigation, Google Assistant voice control, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, wireless updates and more.
The touchscreen will also integrate with a new feature called “Polestar Rejuvenate”, which uses the screen, audio system, interior lighting and massage seats to create a relaxing and reenergizing experience for the driver. The driver can choose from three modes: “Calm”, “Energize” and “Focus”.
The 2024 Polestar 4 will also come with a range of safety and convenience features, such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, park assist, head-up display and more. The Polestar 4 will also introduce Polestar’s new hands-free driving system called “Polestar Active Drive Assist”, which uses cameras and sensors to monitor the road and allow the driver to take their hands off the wheel on certain highways. The system requires the driver to keep their eyes on the road and be ready to take over at any time.
Pricing and Availability
The 2024 Polestar 4 is expected to hit the market in early 2024, with China being the launch market. The pricing has not been announced yet, but it is likely to start from around £55,000 in the UK1. Customers can register their interest now on Polestar’s website2.
